On Tuesday the representatives of all interested parties of Adriatic league met in Zagreb and decided the new form of the league, which they expected that it will be accepted by FIBA. However this doesn’t seem to be the case.

According to Eurohoops sources, the plan which is presented in Geneva by the Adriatic league excecutives does not satisfy the terms of FIBA. That may have as an immediate result the ban of the Serbian and the Croatian national teams from the upcoming U19 FIBA World Championship which starts next week in Creta, Greece.

The new format of the Adriatic league includes 12 teams exclusively from former Yugoslavia, a new governing body, but still FIBA is not willing to recognize the league. As you may have already understood, this is part of the ongoing powerplay for the “remodeling” of European clubs competitions and their control.
