Playing without hospitalized coach Simone Pianigiani, Fenerbahce/ Ulker qualified to Turkish cup semifinals after beating Karsiyaka and will face Besiktas, which also won its quarterfinal game against TED Ankara

The first cup final eight in Europe for this season started on Wednesday in Turkey with the favorites prevailing. Fenerbahce/ Ulker played against Karsiyaka without coach Simone Pianigiani who was hospitalized due to tonsillitis, but got the 77-69 win. Assistant Luca Dalmonte was coaching the team and local favorite Omer Onan (photo) was the top scorer with 18 points.

Besiktas got the first win of the day against TED Ankara (86-77) in a rather easy game for the last season’s cup winners. Cevher Ozer with 17 points was the top scorer of coach Erman Kunter‘s team. The two winning teams will face each other in Friday’s semifinal game.
