Budivelnyk, Riga and Nymburk celebrate

Budivelnyk Kiev in Ukraine, VEF Riga in Latvia and Nymburk in Czech Republic finished the season by winning their domestic championship title this week and they hope to get a place in Euroleague’s qualifying round

Three more champions were crowned this week in Europe. In Ukraine, Budivelnyk (photo) got the title in Game 5 against Azovmash by winning 82-70. Leo Lyons (27 p.) and Malcolm Delaney (19 p.) were the best players for the winners, while former Euroleague star Lynn Greer scored 31 points for the losing side.

In Latvia, VEF Riga was the boss in a 4-1 triumph over Ventspils as they got its third straight championship. The coach of the team, Lithuanian Ramunas Butautas, already signed a three year contract extension.

In Czech Republic, Nymburk got a total sweep in the play offs (10-0) and of course the championship title over Prostejov. Just before the finals the two teams decided that the best of 7 series will be transformed to best of 5 and the team that reached first 3 wins would automatically get one more by 20-0 score.
