A new chapter opens for Maurizio Gherardini, who leaves Fenerbahce to officially become the new President of LegaBasket in Italy. He was the only candidate at today’s voting.
“I thank the clubs for the opportunity and the trust, and I would like to thank Umberto Gandini for the work he has done for Lega Basket over these years. I will try to support the clubs through the development and major changes that the world of basketball is experiencing,” Gherardini first said.
“It will be an interesting challenge, and I am counting on everyone’s help. I like words such as sharing, sustainability, visibility, and positivity,” he also said.
He officially replaces Umberto Gandini, who has been in charge for the past few years. “I am proud of the work carried out over these years together with the Serie A clubs. Our goal was to achieve greater visibility for our league and its key figures, and I believe the results are evident,” he said.
“I will leave behind a stronger League, in step with the times and capable of meeting the challenges the market demands. I wish Maurizio Gherardini, an experienced and successful executive, the best in overcoming the challenges he will face in this role for the common good of our basketball. I am at his disposal to ensure a full transition of powers, focused on maximum cooperation,” he added.
Maurizio Gherardini has been one of the most experienced managers in the world of basketball for over two decades, assuming Toronto’s Vice-Presidency in 2006 before moving to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Since 2014, he has been the General Manager of Fenerbahce.
