At the Belvedere Hall of Palazzo Lombardia, the Frecciarossa Supercoppa 2025 was officially presented, the inaugural event of the season scheduled for Saturday, September 27, and Sunday, September 28 at the Unipol Forum in Assago.
The conference opened with a remembrance of Giorgio Armani, patron of Olimpia Milano, who recently passed away.
“This first tournament represents, in a way, the closing of my mandate as President of the LBA, and I also take this opportunity to thank and introduce Maurizio Gherardini, who will succeed me once the Supercoppa is awarded in this competition”, said LBA President Umberto Gandini.
Former NBA player Andrea Bargnani, Ambassador of the Frecciarossa Supercoppa 2025, commented: “I welcome with great enthusiasm the proposal of Lega Basket Serie A to represent it in such a prestigious event as the Frecciarossa Supercoppa 2025, which marks the official start of the new season. For me, it is a true privilege to stand alongside the League at this moment, because I firmly believe that Italian basketball has all the potential to return to being a point of reference internationally, as it once was”.
Marco Comellini, CEO of Virtus Olidata Bologna, commented from his side: “My hope, beyond which team wins this trophy, is that it will be a great spectacle, watched and loved by many young people, to bring them closer to this wonderful sport”.
Christos Stavropoulos, General Manager of EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, underlined the importance of the tournament: “It’s the first trophy of the season, and I cannot hide that we all want to win it. For us, it is important to play well, and we immediately start with a top match against Bologna. I believe all the fans will enjoy a guaranteed spectacle. We will do our best to honor this glorious competition and Mr. Armani.”
In the semifinals, Dolomiti Energia Trentino will face Germany Brescia, and Virtus Olidata Bologna will play against EA7 Emporio Armani Milano on the 27th of September, and on the 28th, the two winners will meet in the final.
