Carlo Recalcati announced his decision to retire from the benches after an iconic career, especially with the Italian national team.

Carlo Recalcati, the coach who led tehe Italian national team to a silver olympic medal in 2004, decided to call it a day.

“I think it’s time to just watch the games”, he simply said to the local newspaper “La Prealpina”. “I made this decision before the summer began; I have not communicated it or announced it, but I think it is necessary to always be in a position to give 100% and what I can give today is no longer enough”, he explained.

Recalcati parted ways with Turin last February. He is 73rd years old, he had led the Italian national team also to the bronze at the 2003 European Championships, and the gold at the 2005 Mediterranean Games.

As a player, he was with two championships and seven trophies with Cantu, plus two European medals with the Spanish national team. As a coach, he also won three Italian championship titles with Varese, Fortitudo Bologna, and Siena. He remains a technical consultant of the Italian basketball federation.
