The NBA has reached a solution to balance things since not all teams have played an equal number of games prior to the suspension of the season.

The NBA playoff seeding will be based on the 22 participating teams’ winning percentage, and that any tiebreakers necessary after that will follow the usual procedures, as reported by ESPN’s Tim Bontemps. A necessary move by the league, since the 22 teams to take part in the league resumption have not played an equal number of games prior to the suspension in March.

With that being said, the final order of the teams won’t be determined by how many games they are above or below .500, rather by the team’s winning percentage.

As Bontemps further explains, Trail Blazers, Pelicans and Kings share an equal record for ninth place in the Western Conference standings and are each eight games under .500. Still, The Trail Blazers have played 66 games, while the Pelicans and Kings have played 64 and thus Portland is one one-thousandth of a point ahead of both the Pelicans and Kings in winning percentage. If the Trail Blazers have the same record as Pelicans and Kings in Orlando, the Trail Blazers will still finish ahead of them despite having been swept by the Pelicans and having tied the Kings earlier in the season.
