The New York Knicks and Tom Thibodeau are finalizing a five-year deal to make him the franchise’s next head coach, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

There have been reports from multiple sources that the negotiations with Thibodeau weren’t going as smoothly recently and that Jason Kidd emerged as the frontrunner instead, however, it seems that the dynamic has changed and Thibodeau will indeed take over the squad.

Knicks president Leon Rose and agent Spencer Breecker of CAA Sports have been working to complete contractual terms and a signed agreement is expected in the near future.

The 62-year-old has a 352-246 (58.9%) record in eight seasons with Chicago and Minnesota. Thibodeau had five playoff seasons with the Bulls, including a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals and an NBA coach of the year award in 2010.

He led the Timberwolves to the franchise’s first playoff berth in 14 years but an unraveling centered around Jimmy Butler’s trade demand, led to Thibodeau’s dismissal as president and coach in 2019.
