Tom Thibodeau has been the New York Knicks‘ main target for the head coach vacancy, however, after the negotiations with him slowed down, the team turned their attention to Jason Kidd who has now emerged as the frontrunner for the job, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

The Knicks are seeing Kidd as a coach that would attract free agents due to his stature as a Hall of Fame player but there have also been doubts inside the organization about his coaching abilities. It is possible that, if Kidd was hired, the front office would be picking some of his assistant coaches.

It should also be noted that while Kidd is currently the frontrunner, a deal with Thibodeau could still be reached and Mike Miller – the interim coach – is also an option.

Kidd is currently in the Orlando bubble as an assistant with the Lakers. His career record is 183-190 after five seasons with the Nets and Bucks.
