By the time LeBron James’ current contract with the Lakers ends, Bronny James will have graduated and the NBA champion is intrigued by a possible future with his son in the team

LeBron James was available to reporters for the first time since the beginning of the training camp for the 2020-21 season and spoke about the likelihood of playing alongside his oldest son, Bronny, who will be a graduate by the time his current deal with the Los Angeles Lakers expires.

“The best thing about it is the year I’ll be a free agent will be the same year my oldest son graduates high school,” James said Monday about the most appealing part of his two-year, $85M contract extension. “So I’ll have some options to see, for me personally, what I want to do forward, being around my family, being around my son more, or continue to play this game I love with great health and great spirits. We’ll see.”

LeBron James Jr., also known as Bronny, is a sophomore at Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California. However, it should be noted that according to the current regulations, he won’t be eligible for the NBA Draft the same year his father’s contract with the Lakers expires. This would be possible only if the CBA is amended to allow high-school players to be directly drafted to the NBA.

LeBron will be 38 by the time his contract extension expires, but cannot speculate how long he could play past the 2022-23 season.

“I don’t look too far into the future as far as myself. I just give the game as much as I can in the time being and see what happens. I’ve been blessed to be a part of 18 straight training camps, and I’ll never take that for granted”, he said.
