Oscar-winner Adrien Brody will portray NBA coaching great and current executive Pat Riley in an upcoming drama series about the Los Angeles Lakers that is developed by HBO.

According to various reports, the series will focus on the protagonists behind the creation of the “Showtime Era” Los Angeles Lakers and the period in which the team won five championships (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988) during the 1980s.

Academy Award-nominee John C. Riley has been cast as Jerry Buss, the Lakers’ legendary owner and president who purchased the franchise in 1979. Jerry “The Logo” West, the Lakers’ general manager during that era, will be played by Jason Clarke while Quincy Isaiah and Solomon Hughes (in his screen debut) were given the roles of Earvin Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar respectively.
