After landing in Greece a couple of days ago, Giannis Antetokounmpo along with his brother and Milwaukee Bucks teammate Thanasis committed to extending the NBA championship celebrations to Sepolia, an Athens neighborhood. Sepolia was the place he grew up and started playing basketball.

Those plans were canceled due to the large wildfire at Varympompi, located at the foot of Parnitha mountain, threatening the Greek capital, making people evacuate their homes, disrupting road traffic, and stressing the power supply.

“We hope everyone stays safe from the fire. It goes without saying that we are canceling today’s event in Sepolia. We will inform on a new date and time,” he wrote in a Twitter post.
