With the free agency now in full swing, the NBA has opened an investigation into possible tampering violations for two sign-and-trades.

According to reports by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne, the league will investigate the Miami Heat‘s sign-and-trade with the Toronto Raptors for Kyle Lowry, as well as the New Orleans Pelicans and Chicago Bull’s sign-and-trade for Lonzo Ball.

No NBA team was permitted to discuss possible contracts with players until August 2, 6 PM ET, though the news about Lonzo Ball’s sign-and-trade dropped just seconds after the beginning of free agency.

In 2019, the NBA imposed tougher sanctions for tampering, including a $10M maximum fine for teams, as well as possibly suspending team executives, forfeiting draft picks, and even contract voiding.
