Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash is realistic about Kyrie Irving’s absence from the team this season given his current vaccination status

Kyrie Irving was cleared to practice at the Brooklyn Nets’ facilities as of Friday, though head coach Steve Nash recognizes it will be a while before Irving can actually play in the team’s homecourt.

“I think we recognize he’s not playing home games,” Nash told reporters on Sunday. “We’re going to have to for sure play without him this year. So it just depends on when, where, and how much.”

Irving’s availability status has been up in the air, due to his vaccination status for COVID-19 and the seven-time All-Star has already missed two preseason games. However, things can change at any moment, as Nash has stated before.

Currently, Irving was allowed to the Nets‘ facilities as the HSS Training Center is considered a private workplace, so it’s not subject to New York City’s COVID-19 restrictions.

As the preseason continues, the Nets will meet the Philadephia 76ers on the road Monday and they will conclude their preparation games against the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Thursday.
