Brooklyn Nets guard Joe Harris will undergo ankle surgery and will stay out of action for a period of four to eight weeks, his agent told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Nets coach Steve Nash said that Harris will be operated regarding a “little bone particle” on his ankle. He described the surgery as something positive since it’s a necessity to fix the issue that bothers the player and allow him to come back strong later in the season while avoiding potential complications.

“He is going to have a scope and then we’ll see what that means once they’ve had the procedure,” Nash said. “We think this is a really positive thing that can put this situation behind him long term rather than risking reoccurrences or uncertainty with the injury.”

Harris has been sidelined since November 14 when he sprained his ankle during a game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Before he was hurt, he was averaging 11.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in 30.5 minutes while shooting 46.6 percent on 3-pointers.

The Nets are currently leading the Eastern Conference standings with a 14 – 6 record.
