History was made Monday in three different locations across the league with three players scoring 45 points or more for the first time on the same game day.
Karl-Anthony Towns dropped 60 points to set a new franchise record for the Minnesota Timberwolves in their 149-139 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.
Towns exceeded his career-high (previously 56) and grabbed 17 rebounds, to become the first NBA player with these numbers in a game since Shaquille O’Neal did it with 61 points and 23 rebounds for the Los Angeles Lakers on March 6, 2000. The 26-year-old All-Star also shot 19-of-31 and the Timberwolves won their second straight game.
“I told Coach before the game, ‘Hey listen, we need this win. I’ll do whatever it takes,'” Towns said after the game. “‘If I need to play 44, 48 minutes, I’ll get it done.’ That was kind of the mindset I came in (with). I had to dominate. I had to be my best.”
Stephen Curry is aging like fine wine and saved a dominant performance for his 34th birthday in the Golden State Warriors‘ 126-112 win against the Washington Wizards.
Curry totaled 47 points on 16-of-25 shooting while scoring seven three-pointers and this performance places him at the fourth place for most points scored by a player on their birthday.
