James Harden is expected to sign a contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers to remain with the team past the 2022-23 season when his existing deal expires, per Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer.

According to the report, Philadelphia won’t be signing Harden to a four-year maximum extension but likely a short-term deal of two years. The Sixers consider the 2018 MVP as the ideal player to maximize the team’s championship potential with Joel Embiid leading the charge and the direction of the club will be to build around this duo of superstars.

Harden arrived at the Sixers from the Brooklyn Nets in February with the blockbuster trade involving Ben Simmons. The 10-time All-Star guard averaged 21.0 points, 10.5 assists and 7.1 rebounds in 21 regular-season games with Philadelphia, plus 18.6 points, 8.6 assists and 5.7 rebounds in 12 matches in the playoffs. His team got eliminated by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
