German star Dennis Schroder has agreed to a two-year, $26 million deal with the Toronto Raptors, agent Mark Bartelstein confirmed to ESPN.

Schroder signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers prior to last season and began getting regular rotation minutes in November. He started 50 games during the regular season and averaged 12.6 points, 4.5 assists while shooting 41.5% from the field.

With Fred VanVleet gone, Schroder is expected to be a starter in Toronto.

Schroder began his professional career playing in Germany before entering the NBA. He was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 17th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Schroder spent five seasons with the Hawks, primarily serving as a backup point guard behind Jeff Teague initially and later becoming the team’s starting point guard.

In 2018, Schroder was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he continued to showcase his skills as a scoring point guard. He had a productive season with the Thunder, averaging career-high numbers in points and assists.

In the 2020 offseason, Schroder was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, joining the defending NBA champions. He played a significant role off the bench for the Lakers, providing scoring and playmaking, especially during the absence of injured star players.

After his stint with the Lakers, Schroder signed with the Boston Celtics in the 2021 offseason, joining a new team for the upcoming season. However, in 2022 he was back in Los Angeles after winning the Eurobasket 2022 bronze medal with his national team.

Schroder is known for his quickness, ball-handling, and ability to drive to the basket. He has the skill to create his own shot and finish at the rim. Schröder is also a capable three-point shooter and has shown the ability to contribute both offensively and defensively.
