Giannis Antetokounmpo has agreed on a three-year, $186 million maximum contract extension, per multiple reports with Adrian Wojnarowski first breaking the news.

Giannis could have been a free agent in the upcoming summer, but now he can have this option in the summer of 2027.

Per Woj, “the deal includes a player option on the 2027-2028 season”. Things changed for the Bucks after the addition of Damian Lillard.

Before that, Giannis and Milwaukee didn’t have a deal in place and everyone assumed that the Greek Freak was ready to test free agency in the summer of 2024.

That wasn’t the case and Giannis now has the chance to stay in Milwaukee throughout his career since he will be 33 years old in 2027.

The player himself announced the contract extension, just hours before the deadlines permitted by NBA rules.

The two-time MVP, seven-time All-Star, and NBA champion in 2021 has set his sights on more rings and it remains to be seen if the arrival of Lillard can help him achieve his goal.

Plus, it makes sense financially. As Bobby Marks explained on X: “The extension includes a player option in 2027-28 and allows Antetokounmpo to benefit financially in the future with his next contracts.

Because of the Over-38 rule, Antetokounmpo could sign a short-term extension again with Milwaukee in 2026 and then a four-year extension with the Bucks in 2028″.

The contract was signed one day after the announcement of Giannis, who was photographed during the signing of the paperwork with his agents Alex Saratsis and Giorgos Panou.
