During the NBA Night, the San Antonio Spurs pulled off a miraculous comeback to get the first lead of the game in the last two seconds, beating the Phoenix Suns 115-114 also thanks to Victor Wembanyama’s 18 points and 8 rebounds in the encounter.

Before facing Kevin Durant, the 1st pick in the 2023 NBA Draft commented on the legacy of the two-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors. “I like the fact that for years and years, nobody found a way to guard him really, consistently. This is probably the reason why he was one of my top favorite players ever”, the 19-year-old rookie said after losing against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Being asked what it means to be Victor Wembanyama’s idol, the 31-year-old superstar kept it clear and simple, joking about it. “It means I’m old”, he said. After the game, he zoomed in on the potentially generational talent’s upside. “He’s a unique player who is going to be a force in this league for a long time, once he continues to get experience under his belt he’s just gonna get even better”, Kevin Durant added about the former ASVEL player.

The French star himself commented in the post-game press conference about facing the Phoenix Suns superstar for the first time since coming to the NBA. “It’s special. His teammates really look for him and they make him a problem too, the way they set up the plays and try to look for him. It’s definitely one of the hardest players to guard in the league. I’ve played against him once and I know I haven’t seen anything of him or the vast majority of the players, but he’s up there”, the 19-year-old player stated.

In his first four games with the San Antonio Spurs after being selected with the 1st pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, he has been averaging 16.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Without Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, both still injured, next to him, Kevin Durant is putting up 27.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.
