Mike Malone paid the price for the underperforming Denver Nuggets. According to Shams Charania, Malone was fired after a meeting just days before the start of the NBA playoffs.
Malone is the winningest coach in franchise history since being hired in 2015 and led the Nuggets to the 2023 NBA championship together with Serbian superstar Nikola Jokic.
Denver (47-32) is currently in fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
David Adelman, the son of former NBA coach Rick Adelman and assistant coach of Malone until now, is expected to be named interim head coach. Adelman joined the Nuggets back in the summer of 2017.
The Denver Nuggets are also firing with general manager Calvin Booth, making a new start on the most unusual part of the season.
