Monte McNair is no longer the general manager of the Sacramento Kings, following a mutual agreement between the two sides, according to Shams Charania and other U.S. media outlets.
The Kings’ loss to the Mavericks in the first round of the Western Conference Play-In Tournament was the final trigger behind the split.
McNair’s last year included several major moves, most notably the firing of head coach Mike Brown in late 2024 and the February trade that sent De’Aaron Fox to Chicago in exchange for Zach LaVine—two decisions that ultimately shaped the current course of the franchise.
McNair spent five seasons with the Kings and was named NBA Executive of the Year in 2023, when Sacramento ended a 16-year playoff drought.
Despite three consecutive 40+ win seasons, the Kings failed to make the playoffs both last year and again this season.
