Marc Gasol visited his former teammates Zach Randolph and Tony Allen in the “Out of the Mud” podcast and shared a hilarious story about himself, Nikola Jokic, and his two brothers.
As he explained, the former NBA champion first met Nikola’s brothers during Darko Milicic’s wedding in Serbia.
“I’m at Darko Milicic’s wedding and I see these two guys”, said Gasol. “Obviously, we’re celebrating, so we’re all happy and into it, and they tell me, hey man, you know we got a brother that plays like you. He’s very good, he’s very talented.”
Marc Gasol was simply polite and he replied: “Hopefully he does great and cheers and ‘živeli” (ed.note: cheers in Serbian) and took some rakia and kept on going.”
That was not the end of the story. “I think like two or three years later, we’re playing in Denver, I’m warming up and I see two guys coming down the stairs and they just scream “Mark, Mark.” I look up and say, what are they doing here? And they say that’s our brother. It turns out their brother was Nikola”.
On a more serious note, Marc Gasol not only praised Jokic but also explained what makes him so special.
“At the time, they were playing together with Jusuf Nurkic, and they were battling for minutes, and Nikola said he didn’t care to come off the bench”, explained Gasol.
“I think he is one of the all-time greats and I love watching him play”, he added, “I just love his usage, there’s no play that he doesn’t touch the ball. When they don’t know what to do, they just throw him the ball and then everything just starts happening”.
