Former Boston Celtics power forward Guerschon Yabusele returned to the NBA last summer after spending a year in China and four years in Europe playing for ASVEL and Real Madrid.

He joined the Philadelphia 76ers and impressed in his comeback season, seemingly securing his place both in the league and in the Sixers’ future plans.

According to Marc Stein, Philadelphia hopes to re-sign the French national team member. Reportedly, creating financial flexibility to retain the bruising forward — who played this season on a veteran minimum deal — was one of the key reasons behind the Sixers’ cost-cutting moves at the trade deadline.

The 76ers president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey, also recently addressed the team’s intentions to retain Yabusele.

I mean, he’s really embraced Philly, which is exciting. He’s going to have many great options—I mean, he’s very valued around the league. So hopefully he understands how important he is to us and to the fans of Philly,” Morey said on The Rights To Ricky Sanchez: The Sixers Podcast.

In 70 regular season appearances, Yabusele averaged 11 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, while shooting 38% from three-point range.
