After being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in five games against the Indiana Pacers, speculation has grown regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks.
According to Shams Charania, this could become one of the biggest stories of the summer, although the two-time NBA MVP has not made any definitive decisions about his future in Milwaukee.
Charania reports that “Antetokounmpo is open-minded about exploring whether his best long-term fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere.”
Reportedly, there will be substantive conversations about Giannis and his future this week in Chicago, where decision-makers from all 30 NBA teams are gathered for the Draft Combine (May 11-18). Teams have consistently checked in with the Bucks over the years about Antetokounmpo’s availability, and that interest is expected to intensify during Combine week.
Any potential talks involving Antetokounmpo begin with his own view on the future—whether he sees a long-term path in Milwaukee or believes another franchise may be a better fit. The Bucks are also expected to meet with his representatives, Giorgios Panou and Alex Saratsis, this offseason to discuss next steps.
In 67 games this season, Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists while shooting 60 percent from the field—one of the most efficient campaigns of his career
