The passionate pursuit of Michael Jordan memorabilia extended to a uniform worn during the 1992-93 season with the Chicago Bulls and also used in a photo session for an issue of Sports Illustrated on October 18, 1993.
The famous jersey was purchased for 2.623 million dollars, including buyer’s premium, at a Heritage Auctions sale on Sunday, as reported by ESPN’s Dan Hajducky.
The two-time Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee featured in at least 11 games with this jersey en route to his third of six championships with the Bulls, according to photo-matching services MeiGray and Sports Investors Authentication. That season marked one of his ten appearances at the top of the annual scoring list, at the bottom end of a seven-year streak starting in 1987.
An enormous price tag fell well shy of a record-breaking 10.091 million dollars to sell his ‘Last Dance’ jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals in September 2022.
Jordan, 62, recently returned to the league based in North America in a different role, as a special contributor to NBC’s upcoming coverage of the NBA. He previously served as the majority owner and governor of the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets from 2010 and 2023.
His legendary playing career, establishing him as the most influential basketball icon, lasted from 1984 to 2003 with brief breaks between stints with the Bulls and Washington Wizards. Representing the United States, he won Olympic gold medals in 1984 and as a member of the Dream Team in 1992.
