The New York Knicks lost 4-2 to the Indiana Pacers in this season’s Eastern Conference Finals, failing to reach the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals but reaching such a stage for the first time in 25 years.
However, despite this big accomplishment, the franchise from the Big Apple decided to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The experienced head coach returned to the Knicks in 2020 after already being with the franchise from 1996 to 2003 as an assistant coach. He also led the Chicago Bulls (2010-15) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (2016-19) in recent years.
Since returning to the team, Tom Thibodeau dragged the Knicks to the NBA Playoffs in four of his five years on board, leading New York to 50+ win seasons for the first time since the ’90s.
