Goran Dragic won’t step one more time on a basketball court, at least for a professional game. He officially retired last year, with a special event in Ljubljana full of superstars from the present and past.
However, he did return to the past in a way, participating in the latest edition of one of the most recognized and anticipated events of the year, the Adidas EuroCamp in Treviso.
In Northern Italy, he gave an interview to HoopsHype, touching on several topics, including his relationship with injuries throughout his career. “It was tough. It’s still tough because I didn’t go out on my terms. Of course, I understand injuries are part of the game. But you have to accept it,” he said.
“You have to move on. But if I look back, some guys don’t have such a long career as I did. So I’m grateful for every moment that I spent on the court.”
The former Slovenian point guard also commented on returning to Treviso for the event, mentioning a “full circle” experience. “The last time that I was playing here was 2007,” he commented.
“It’s been quite a while, and I have really good memories of this place. Met a lot of new people, new friends, and it’s always nice to come back and support a young talent, upcoming NBA stars.”
Among the guests of the event, there was also another former European point guard, such as Sergio Rodriguez. “The style of basketball changed a lot. I was just talking to [Sergio] Rodriguez yesterday that usually back in the day we had 6-2, 6-3 point-guards,” Dragic said.
“Now you cannot find them anymore. Everybody’s 6-6, 6-7, and they’re playing on the ball, off the ball. The game changed a lot, but I think basketball is in good hands.”
