The San Antonio Spurs emerge as the favorite to land 36-year-old Kevin Durant during the offseason

With the Phoenix Suns expected to trade away Kevin Durant, the San Antonio Spurs have been reported by several outlets as the most likely destination for the former two-time NBA champion and four-time Olympic gold medalist with the United States.

Confirming rumors and adding a major update, the 36-year-old forward would prefer a trade to San Antonio, according to Hoops Wire.

Durant has a contract for the 2025-26 season before becoming a free agent. The expiring contract naturally impacts trade talks with potential suitors. Despite growing speculation about heading to the Spurs, the return for the Suns remains unclear.

The native of Washington, D.C. played for Texas during the 2006-07 NCAA season, en route to being selected with the second overall pick of the 2007 NBA draft by the Seattle Supersonics. His professional career went from Seattle to the Oklahoma City Thunder, to the Golden State Warriors in 2016, the Brooklyn Nets in 2019, and the Suns in 2023. Therefore, a possible move to San Antonio would bring back an established college connection to the state.

In addition, he would join forces with French superstar Victor Wembanyama, who is projected to be medically cleared by the top of the next season. The 21-year-old big, the first draft pick in 2023, was forced to prematurely conclude his 2024-25 journey due to a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. Bouncing back without additional issues and being joined by KD would certainly make the Spurs a championship contender.
