Denver Nuggets star Russell Westbrook will become an unrestricted free agent since he decided to decline his 2025-26 option, according to Marc Stein.
Westbrook, 36, has a 3.4 million player option in the contract he signed with the Nuggets in 2024. The nine-time All-Star guard may join Denver again with a new deal or move to another team after June 30 when the NBA free agency begins.
In 2024-25, the former MVP Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 76 regular-season games with the Nuggets. He had 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in the playoffs where Denver was eliminated 3-4 by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.
Last month, Westbrook had a right hand surgery to repair multiple ligament tears, per the Nuggets.
