Tyrese Haliburton’s dream of winning the NBA Championship and potentially being named NBA Finals MVP got shattered during Game 7 of the series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Having to leave the court in pain, Indiana’s superstar couldn’t lead his team. As now reported by Shams Charania from ESPN, he sustained a torn right Achilles tendon, and he’s expected to undergo surgery.
Entering Game 7 against the Thunder, which won the league, he was averaging 17.7 points and a playoff-leading 9.0 assists, shooting 46% from the field.
According to ESPN, his 197 assists were a franchise record for a single postseason.
After the game, head coach Rick Carlisle praised him. “He authored one of the great individual playoff runs in the history of the NBA with dramatic play after dramatic play. It was something that no one’s ever seen,” he said.
Tyrese Haliburton’s 2024-25 season started back in Paris, winning the gold medal alongside LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant at the Olympic Games.
