A contract extension between 23-year-old Ajay Mitchell and the Oklahoma City Thunder is now official

Ajay Mitchell has officially signed a multi-year contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After the NBA moratorium was lifted, the NBA champions announced the deal on Sunday without sharing further details.

Per ealier reports, the 23-year-old Belgian shooting guard agreed to a three-year contract worth nine million dollars to replace a three-million option for the 2025-26 season and start immediately.

Per the press release: “The Oklahoma City Thunder has signed guard Ajay Mitchell to a multi-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

Mitchell appeared in 36 games during his rookie campaign and averaged 6.5 points on 49.5% shooting, including 38.3% from three-point range, 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 16.6 minutes per contest.

The Belgium native was originally selected 38th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft.”

The contract extension joined a long list of deals, including a history-making seven-team trade sending Kevin Durant and Swiss Clint Capela to the Houston Rockets, becoming official shortly following the end of the moratorium in place between July 1 and 6, a negotiation period for teams and players before transactions can be formally finalized.

Elsewhere in the league, the Milwaukee Bucks officially received Serbian Vasilije Micic from the Charlotte Hornets, but are expected to waive him. Also, the Los Angeles Clippers announced a contract extension for French Nicolas Batum and the New York Knicks completed the addition of fellow France player Guershon Yabusele.
