Being traded to Atlanta once the 2024-25 season ended, Kristaps Porzingis couldn’t finish his adventure with the Boston Celtics the way both he and the team wanted.
Talking to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ahead of his new steps with the Hawks, he recalled the end of his experience with Boston. “Our season didn’t end last year the way we wanted to. But this is how it goes, you know. Obviously, we expected that there were going to be changes in the whole team,” he said.
“Having a little bit longer summer than usual is always awesome as a player, because the NBA season is tough. I jumped in the middle of the season, and it’s obviously tough,” he commented.
“Having this time off and being able to recharge a bit and get ready for a big summer, and then going into next year, it’s honestly the perfect scenario. I’m super excited about what’s coming,” Kristaps Porzingis also added about transitioning to the Atlanta Hawks.
When it comes to mentioning the “big summer”, the Latvian star probably refers to representing his country at home in Riga at FIBA EuroBasket 2025, before moving to a new chapter in the NBA.
Porzingis also revealed he has already had conversations with Atlanta’s front office and coaching staff. “We talked a little bit. We didn’t go into very specific details. I met with Onsi [Saleh, the General Manager] and Coach Quin [Snyder], and we went over some things and style of play,” he said.
“Honestly, I’m very excited. I really like what I saw. And I’m not just saying that because I’m on a new team. I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s the right style of play, and I think I will fit right in. I can fit honestly anywhere,” Kristaps Porzingis also commented.
“I think I’ll fit right in here and add more like diversity, maybe even more offense. I think there’s going to be more like layers to this offense that’s already pretty powerful. We can really be a force offensively.”
