A complicated situation surrounding trade talks or the lack of interest in Nikola Vucevic might lead the Chicago Bulls to consider buyout options, as recently reported by NBA insider Jake Fischer.

The 34-year-old Montenegrin center is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season, with a guaranteed salary of over $21 million.

Before the 2023-24 season, he penned a contract extension with the Bulls, which lasts until next summer. He has indeed been involved in midseason and offseason trade talks over recent years, but might end up as an unrestricted free agent upon a contract buyout, if such a trade does not materialize over the next few months.

A Crvena Zvezda fan, Vucevic has been vocal about wanting to return to Europe to end his playing career after his NBA run is over.

Beyond his uncertain future with the team based in Windy City, an amusing exchange with former Orlando Magic teammate Evan Fournier on social media has also been making headlines lately.

The veteran of 989 NBA games is expected to suit up for Montenegro in the EuroBasket 2025, likely to wrap up his international career in the upcoming tournament. His side is in Group B of the preliminary round, set to take on Germany, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, and Great Britain between August 27 and September 3, in Tampere. The top four seeds will move on to play in the knockout stage, hosted in Riga from September 6 to 14.
