Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum didn’t rule out the possibility that he could be making his much expected return to action from an Achilles rupture in the upcoming season.
“I haven’t said I’m not playing this season,” Tatum said on ESPN’s First Take. “The most important thing is a full recovery: Not rushing. I don’t go to rehab six days a week for nothing.”

Tatum is working hard to be able to play in 2025-26 and help the Celtics‘ efforts to win the championship again as they most recently did in 2024. The 27-year-old forward suffered the injury in May during the NBA playoffs.
If Tatum’s recovery progresses smoothly then a best-case scenario is that the player will be stepping on the floor some time near the end of the regular season.
“With that being said… with being a part of the organization and the Celtics, there is a standard that we play to, that we uphold,” Tatum mentioned regarding other Celtics players stepping up in his absence and after multiple departures this summer. “Regardless of who is on the lineup, who is on the team and who is not, there is a sense of pride that we have when we put that uniform on. And that’s competing for a championship. That standard will not change.”
Tatum, a six-time All-Star, averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 6.0 assists in the 2024-25 regular season.
