Following a premature end to his 2024-25 campaign, leading to a solid NBA Preseason 2025, Victor Wembanyama will be a candidate for the Most Valuable Player award in the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season, according to Carmelo Anthony.
“I predict he’s the MVP this year,” mentioned the 41-year-old former player during a discussion on 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony, “I say that because he has an opportunity to lead every statistical category in the game. Every category that there is, he can lead in this season.”
With additional notes regarding Arvydas Sabonis, Nikola Jokic, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, and LeBron James, Melo went on to break down how Wemby can dominate the league and earn the MVP nod.
Entering the league based in North America, following an exciting start to his professional career in his home country of France, Wembanyama was the top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft Presented by State Farm. The upward trend continued in being named NBA Rookie of the Year of the 2023-24 season and in the All-Star Game 2025, until doctors discovered a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder and the San Antonio Spurs shut him down for the remainder of the season in February. Now cleared for action, on the heels of an eventful offseason combining intensive practice with various off-court activities, his restart seems promising.
Closing the NBA Preseason 2025 schedule, the Spurs host the Indiana Pacers in Frost Bank Center on Friday. On Wednesday, the first fixture of the 2025-26 Regular Season is opposite the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center.
