Bucks star avoids Achilles damage but faces several weeks on the sidelines

Giannis Antetokounmpo will miss the next two to four weeks due to a right calf strain, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The Bucks star went down three minutes into Wednesday’s game against Detroit, collapsing while retreating on defense. He clutched his lower leg before teammates helped him off the floor. He later walked to the locker room under his own power.

Early tests ruled out an Achilles injury, head coach Doc Rivers confirmed after the game, easing initial concerns.

Antetokounmpo had just returned from a left groin issue that kept him out for four games last month, appearing in Milwaukee’s previous three outings.

The setback comes shortly after reports that he is evaluating his long-term future with the Bucks, though Rivers said there have been “no conversations” on that topic and insisted Giannis “loves Milwaukee and loves the Bucks.”

Milwaukee will now be without its franchise leader as he begins rehab.
