Guerschon Yabusele currently plays for the New York Knicks. The French big man is in his fourth season in the NBA, after playing for the Boston Celtics for two years (2017-2019). He played in China (2019-2020) before flying overseas and pushed ASVEL for one season (2020-21). After that, he joined Real Madrid and became one of the best players in the Euroleague.
With the arrival of several talented players from the NBA to lead the teams in the Euroleague, Yabusele’s name was one to keep an eye on. But, as he has confirmed, he is focused on the NBA.
In an interview with French YouTuber Just Riadh, Yabusele spoke about the advantages of the NBA and why he doesn’t think about returning to European basketball.
The former Real Madrid player returned to the American league with the Philadelphia 76ers, who noticed the great season he had with the Spanish team.
“If you play three years in the NBA, you receive a lifetime pension,” he said. Adding more context, after four seasons, medical expenses are covered for life.
And when you play five years, this coverage extends to your entire family. “I want to play five years so my family has lifetime medical coverage. You never know what might happen in life.“, Yabusele explained in the interview. He needs one more season to make it happen.
Yabusele is averaging 3.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in the New York Knicks. He has played 30 regular season games so far, but he is not a key piece in the system.
