Real Madrid visits Paris for EuroLeague Round 25, looking to continue their winning streak. After six consecutive victories in Europe’s top competition, Scariolo’s team sits at 16-8 in the standings, close to the top spot.

The Italian coach spoke ahead of Tuesday’s game in the French capital (8:45 PM CET), emphasizing the difficulty of the opponent, his opinion on the NBA in Europe, and the estimated recovery time for Theo Maledon, who suffered an adductor injury and is doubtful for the Cup.

NBA Europe

Regarding the potential for NBA Europe and the medium- to long-term future that Scariolo has frequently mentioned, the coach was clear. “That’s not a question for me, and I appreciate that. I focus on the court and enjoying myself with the players,” he commented.

“It’s a question for the club, for the management. There are many factors involved, half of which I myself am probably unaware of. There are economic factors, long-term vision… there are many things at play,” Scariolo continued.

The only communication I have is that no decision has been made and that there is still hope that an agreement can be reached. Beyond that, I can’t tell you because I don’t know the situation,” he concluded.

Maledon’s injury

He took the opportunity to talk about Theo Maledon. The French point guard suffered an adductor injury against AS Monaco that will keep him out of competition for several weeks, and he is doubtful for the Spanish Cup, which starts on February 19.

There’s talk of him being ready for the Cup. Just barely, but he’ll be ready for the Cup, if everything goes well,” he told the media. “It’s a serious loss. We also don’t want to overload Facundo. We have faith in Andrés (Feliz), who has almost always played shooting guard,” he added.

Relationship with Hezonja

The Italian coach told the media what makes his relationship with Mario Hezonja, who has changed in recent weeks, so special. The Croatian has established himself as Real Madrid‘s attacking focal point.

The beginning was complicated because he has certain habits and ways of doing things,” he explained. “Now he’s even enjoying himself. I’ve been very tough on him at times. He’s the player I’ve been toughest on because I believe he hasn’t reached his full potential yet,” he added about the Croatian.
