The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Sunday that forward Santi Aldama will undergo an arthroscopic procedure to address persistent discomfort in the trochlear compartment of his right knee. According to the team, the surgery will include an orthobiologic injection designed to promote healing and reduce inflammation in the joint. While the Grizzlies confirmed that Aldama is expected to make a full recovery, a specific timeline for his return to basketball activities will not be established until the procedure is completed.
The injury brings an abrupt and disappointing halt to what has been a breakout fifth NBA campaign for the 25-year-old Spaniard. Before being sidelined in early February, Aldama appeared in 43 games, posting career-high averages of 14.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest. His efficiency also reached new heights this season, as he shot 47.9% from the floor and 35.0% from beyond the arc, solidifying his role as a versatile, floor-spacing cornerstone in the Memphis frontcourt.
The loss further depletes a roster already reeling from a wave of significant injuries. The timing is particularly challenging for Finnish head coach Tuomas Iisalo, since his side currently sits 23-43 in the 2025-26 Regular Season, trailing the final Western Conference Play-In spot by eight games.
