According to Milwaukee Bucks owner Wes Edens, the options for Giannis Antetokounmpo are either a contract extension or a trade

Wes Edens, one of the Milwaukee Bucks owners, has given a new perspective on the matter of Giannis Antetokounmpo staying with the team.

This summer, the Greek Freak enters the final year of his contract, which means he is eligible for a four-year extension worth $275 million. Edens, speaking to ESPN, was clear about the options available to both sides.

“Giannis is entering the final year of his contract. So one of two things will happen: either he will sign an extension or he will be traded. The possibility of just letting him play out the final year is not something we can afford. It doesn’t align with the organization’s best interests. This isn’t about Giannis. It’s about any player who is in the last year of their contract” Edens said.

This season, Antetokounmpo has been injured three times and has played in only 36 games (27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists), while the Milwaukee Bucks are expected to miss the postseason for the first time since the 2015-2016 season.
