AEK Athens intends to join the NBA Europe project and presented a bid for the open spot in Athens, as confirmed by the Greek club.
While for months there has been speculation about the names of the clubs that would participate in this project, as well as what it will look like, AEK has confirmed that they are ready to participate in NBA Europe.
Athens is one of the 12 cities that are targeted by the new league, and AEK wants to represent Greece as a permanent franchise in the new project.
Currently, the Athenians are playing in the FIBA Basketball Champions League, and they are competing in the quarterfinals of the 2025-26 season. As for the Greek championship, they are in third place with a record of 15-6 behind EuroLeague shareholders Olympiacos and Panathinaikos.
