The primary hurdle for Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis as he looks toward the future is an acknowledgment of his own physical limitations. Despite a productive sophomore campaign, the young franchise cornerstone remains focused on the gap between his current frame and the strength required for long-term NBA dominance.
In a recent discussion with Julia Poe of The Chicago Tribune, the Lithuanian-American combo forward offered a blunt self-assessment of his physique. “I mean, look at me. I’m skinny as hell,” he mentioned. This realization has turned into a mission for the 21-year-old, who was the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, presented by State Farm.
For Buzelis, the upcoming offseason is not just about skill development, but about a fundamental physical transformation. “I definitely have to add strength,” he explained, emphasizing a holistic approach to his health by noting that “your body’s a temple, so you really want to take care of it.”
Currently sidelined for a third straight game of the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season heading into Thursday’s matchup against the Washington Wizards, the forward’s absence underscores the physical toll of an 82-game schedule.
However, his growth from an NBA All-Rookie Second Team selection to a focal point of the Bulls‘ future is undeniable. Through 76 games this season, Buzelis has posted improved averages of 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 0.7 steals per contest.
As Chicago prepares for its final stretch against the Orlando Magic and Dallas Mavericks, the young star has shifted toward his off-court commitment.
