Following the conclusion of the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season, Miami Heat forward Simone Fontecchio focuses on reaching the 2026 NBA Playoffs, presented by Google, while expressing a deep desire to remain in South Florida. As the 30-year-old veteran approaches unrestricted free agency for the first time in his career, he has made his intentions clear regarding his professional stability and family comfort.

“I’d love to stay here,” Fontecchio stated when discussing his tenure with the Heat in a recent interview with Italy’s Sky Sports.

And elaborated on his preference for the team: “I wouldn’t want to move my family again because we’re great in Miami. Just as importantly, I feel really comfortable with everyone here, from the owners to the coaching staff, and especially in this locker room, which is special because of the group it’s created.”

Despite his personal preference, the Pescara native remains a realist regarding the nature of the league, noting that while he can now choose his own path, ‘we all know how the business works here, and nothing is really a given’.

Looking back at his performance during the Regular Season, where he averaged 8.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, Fontecchio offered a candid self-assessment. He admitted to a stretch of fluctuations, particularly after a strong start gave way to a difficult December and a reduction in minutes. “I’m overall satisfied, even though it’s been a season with a few ups and downs,” he shared.

Now, as the team coached by Erik Spoelstra prepares for the 2026 SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament matchup against the Charlotte Hornets, Fontecchio is focused on securing his first-ever NBA playoff berth.
