Following a turbulent 2025-26 season for the Milwaukee Bucks, ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania doubled down on his reporting regarding the fractured relationship between the organization and Greek superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday.

Charania responded to criticisms from former head coach Doc Rivers, who had previously characterized the reporter’s work as emotional and labeled a recent exposé as a revenge article.

“I just report the news. I just document the news. So, the truth can hurt sometimes, 100%. I stand by my reporting to the tenth degree, like 100%,” he stated.

The veteran reporter specifically addressed the long-standing rumors of a trade request, claiming that Antetokounmpo and his representatives informed the Bucks as early as last May that the two-time MVP was ready to move on, suggesting that the current friction is a result of a significant miscalculation by general manager Jon Horst and the team’s coaching staff.

“The reality of everything in Milwaukee is this. If they spent as much time dealing with their own internal dynamics and problems as they do with responding to accurate reports, they wouldn’t be in the mess that they’re in right now,” Charania noted, offering a stinging critique of the team’s management. “I’m doing the job at the highest of levels I possibly can.”

Charania characterized the team’s recent public denials as a cover-up for a situation that has already reached a breaking point. “The part we’re at now is when everyone wants to go, and you’re doing the cover-up. It’s totally fine. I’m just here to document and cover it the right way,” he mentioned, using unusually strong language to call out the organization’s leadership.
