Nicolas Batum seems ready to transition to a post-playing career in sports media, securing a role as a commentator for French television during the NBA Finals, according to a report from L’Equipe on Friday. The veteran forward is slated to deliver analysis in English, which will be subtitled for French viewers, signaling a move toward broadcasting.
This pivot comes as the 37-year-old approaches the end of his tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers, with the 2025–26 season widely expected to be his final run after 18 seasons in the league. Having retired from international competition after winning silver at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he has hinted that this journey marked the end of his playing days.
Despite a team option for the 2026–27 season, the French icon has indicated he is indeed considering retirement, suggesting he has nothing left to prove on the court. His potential departure follows an illustrious career, spanning 1,281 NBA games between the Regular Season and the Playoffs, and multiple Olympic appearances.
Before making his mark in the United States, he played for Le Mans from 2006 to 2008, en route to being selected with the 25th overall pick of the annual draft in 2008. He also played for SLUC Nancy during the lockout in 2011, with the rest of his professional career in the NBA.
Beyond the NBA Finals and following a similar role for last summer’s EuroBasket 2025, the Lisieux native is expected to expand his broadcasting portfolio by commenting on the FIBA World Cup 2027 for French television.
