Extending an invitation to Victor Wembanyama, who has previously trained with retired veterans to polish his early footwork, Kevin Garnett publicly offers a summer workout to help the French phenom master low-post leverage and core stability

Recapping the recent defeat of the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals 2026, former NBA champion and Most Valuable Player Kevin Garnett publicly extended an offseason invitation to train Victor Wembanyama.

Speaking on his Ticket & The Truth podcast, the member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame emphasized that the young French superstar needs targeted developmental guidance rather than simple bulk. “One thing I want to speak on is Wemby’s development. If I’m him, I’m working on core strength,” he stated.

“When it came down to setting up on that block and then pitching and getting it off down there, I was the best at that,” the Big Ticket added, reflecting on his own career physical traits to explain how to maximize a slender frame.

Garnett’s proposed blueprint centers heavily on building lower-body and core stability. Drawing parallels to his own famously lean playing physique, he explained that true low-post dominance requires low-center leverage to remain entirely immovable, rather than just carrying heavy muscle mass. He expressed a desire to refine Wembanyama’s mid-post footwork, teaching him the intricate shimmies, jab steps, and spacing techniques necessary to elevate over defenders without settling for perimeter jumpers.

The offer highlights an evolving dynamic between the two stars, who previously shared a lengthy, private meeting ahead of the 2024–25 season. While Garnett has openly marveled at the Le Chesnay native’s hybrid blend of finesse and force, he has also emerged as one of his most prominent critics. Just weeks ago, he drew heavy scrutiny for calling the 22-year-old center ‘too emotional’ after Wemby visibly cried on court following San Antonio’s Western Conference Finals triumph over the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Despite those harsh critiques, Garnett remains deeply invested in the young star’s evolution, noting that the unique center is fundamentally altering how the basketball world views the position. “So I would love to work with big fella, but this generation has a preference on how they want to work out, and I have to respect that,” he remarked, concluding his thoughts.
