LeBron James will join the Philadelphia 76ers to chase another NBA championship alongside superstars Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown.
His earth-shattering decision was revealed by ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania on Friday afternoon. According to Charania, the 41-year-old superstar is penning a team-friendly two-year, $8 million deal with a player option.
On social media, the Akron native candidly admitted he initially believed his historic career was over when the 2025–26 season concluded.
“I wasn’t ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game,” he wrote. “I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and decide if I still love this game. I still truly love this game, and I have more to give.”
However, after taking weeks to isolate himself, reflect, and evaluate his future, he realized his deep, intrinsic love for the game remained completely intact.
“I’ve never been able to have no clue what to do and take real time to just think,” noted James. “I’ve had an incredible few months with all the people I love trying to figure it all out. This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?”
“I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship,” he added.
While offering sincere gratitude to former teams Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, and Cleveland Cavaliers, the four-time NBA champion leaves behind a legendary multi-franchise path to start this fresh journey.
“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time,” stressed James.
Widely considered one of the greatest players of all time, he brings an unprecedented resume to the City of Brotherly Love, including four regular-season Most Valuable Player nods and four Finals MVPs via his four championships across an unmatched 23 years in the league.
