During an appearance on the Cousins with Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady podcast, posted Wednesday, Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis detailed a brutal on-court lesson courtesy of Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic last March.
“I don’t really want to get into detail because it was some really, like, nasty things said, but he just started baking me bad, like 12 in a row, like bad, and I was like, I don’t care, keep doing that, I don’t care what you doing, keep scoring, we’ll see if you can keep scoring. I have 20 at half, and he has 22. So I’m chilling. So I end with like 23, and he ends with like 50,” he recounted of the intense matchup against the Slovenian star in the 2025–26 NBA Regular Season.
“He hit this one shot, and I’m not even trying to glaze or anything, but he shot it… He was isoing, and he does that step back, shot it. I feel like in midair he like points directly down at me, and I’m in the corner, and he like turns around mid-shot, and it just went straight back rim. I was like, ‘Oh god, that’s not good.’ They beat us by like 20. In the media, I was saying that I’m probably not going to trash talk again to him, but I really don’t care. I’m going to do it again,” added the Lithuanian forward.
Buzelis, who recently debuted with the senior national team of Lithuania during the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, laughed off the postgame reality check when Doncic had to consult the box score to identify him. He ultimately views these battles as stepping stones toward his overarching goal of delivering a championship to his hometown Chicago Bulls. Fueled by his fierce Chicago roots and an unyielding competitive spirit, the rising star emphasized that he refuses to back down and confidently reaffirmed his intention to resume trash-talking Doncic in their next competitive meeting.
