The New Orleans Pelicans have traded Jordan Hawkins, Micah Peavy, a future second-round draft pick and a future second-round pick swap to the Memphis Grizzlies for AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson.
This trade opened up a spot on the Pelicans‘ roster, allowing them to sign Bennedict Mathurin to a two-year, $16 million contract. Also, trade saves New Orleans $5.7 million in salary, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
On the other hand, the Grizzlies still face decisions, as they have several players and signed contracts exceeding the allowed 15.
Hawkins, an NCAA champion with UConn in 2023, has spent his entire career so far with the Pelicans. He played in 174 games, averaging eight points, 2.3 rebounds, and one assist.
